Celebrating Chaplin

Charlie Chaplin was born 124 years ago, on April 16th,
in London, England, the son of two music hall singers.

He made his first screen appearance at age 24, as a top-hatted, cane-twirling swindler in the 1914 Keystone comedy "Making a Living." (A few weeks later, 'the Little Tramp' appeared in theaters for the first time, in "Kid Auto Races at Venice" ; Charlie allegedly borrowed the baggy pants from fellow Keystoner Roscoe Arbuckle . )

Check out the movies (and books) of Charlie Chaplin on our display located near the New Books shelves.

“Failure is unimportant. It takes courage to make a fool of yourself.”
