Cinema's original "It Girl" was born July 29, 1905, in Brooklyn, New York. (The nickname stuck, after her lead role in the film It based on the novel of the same name by Elinor Glyn.
Bow became an idol for the flapper generation through her many films, and was cast as the female lead in the Academy Award-winning Wings in 1927.
"In my era," she said in 1951, "we had individuality. We did as we pleased. We stayed up late. We dressed the way we wanted. I'd whiz down Sunset Boulevard in my open Kissel with seven red chow dogs to match my hair. Today they're sensible and end up with better health -- but we had more fun."
